Lazarus

Gnu/Gpl | 64 Mo | Linux | Windows

Based on Free Pascal, Lazarus want to be a Free alternative to Borland’s Delphi!

That can seem presumptuous, but Windows Lazarus is very interesting and works apparently without problem. It’s what is called RAD or IDE, [1]. It combines Free Pascal pure programming and a graphic environment allowing the addition of components and forms in order to create a man/machine interface. Available components are varied from simple button to text zone, and we can easily tune their properties or associate them to an occurence (but it will be then necessary to program).

In theory we could use Delphi/Kylix projects in Lazarus, but in fact, it can occur compatibility difficulties, mainly with databases.

Once the program written, we can compile, debug and execute it very easily.

Clearly, we are not yet with a Delphi equivalent software, but Lazarus remains one of rare Free software development tools which simply and efficiently mixes graphic objects and programming.
